Ohio

I've lived in this state close to three years now, and have formed some preliminary impressions. I try not to let other factors cloud my judgement, such as three consecutive layoffs in those three years, and a deplorable tax system, in order to arive at an accurate read of the state, its people, and the quality of life here.

Not that this state, or any other for that matter, can hold a candle to my native Michigan. I mean, why even try to compare? Hello? Four Great Lakes? Four great seasons, a paradise for sportmen, tourists, and families? But I digress. There seems to be a deep-seeded psychosis unique to Buckeyes, and I think I've finally figured it out.

Do not forgive, and do not forget. That seems to be the mantra here. Let me explain: this world of ours is full of mistakes, and the people who make them. Most of the time, you deal with those mistakes, ask for forgiveness, and move on. But here its different. When you screw up, as I often do, Buckeyes feel a need to point it out, well after the act, and even well after the act has been corrected. They feel a need to point it out to you, and then to others in the most obnoxious way, as if to drill it in to you to NEVER EVER dare do that again. Its a very disheartening, very discouraging place to be, and I'm with Staz when she says that she wants OUT as soon as possible. We're working on that. A well-paying job and three decent credit scores notwithstanding. In the meantime, I guess we just deal with the inmates, and try not to attract too much attention.
